Kimochis Huggtopus Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

What is a Kimochi you may ask?  Well, Kimochi means “feeling” in Japanese.  Each of these plush characters come with their own set of Kimochis or feelings.  These are little colored plush pillows that have different feeling printed on their backside with a corresponding face on the front that matches their feeling.  The little Kimochis even have little arms and legs!  They also come in different colors too.  The plush characters are about 12 inches with a pouch on the front of them where the Kimochis or feelings can be stored.
The point of Kimochis is to teach kids about their feelings.  You know how it is.  You have a two year old that throws tantrums (in my case it’s my four year old) or you have the older child that is in the middle at almost nine that thinks she’s going on 13 but at the same time doesn’t act like it.  I think it’s very important to teach kids about their feelings as early as possible.  Their feelings also need to be acknowledged and understood.
I was very interested in Kimochis and was pretty excited to get the opportunity to recieve one and review.  We recieved Huggtopus (a purple octopus).  He has brightly colored dots on his tentacles and he looks like the most friendly octopus that I have ever seen!  His pouch is located as his mouth where my kids can put their own feelings inside.  With Huggtopus came three Kimochis with the feelings of Frustrated, Happy, and Silly.  They come in the colors of yellow, purple, and orange.  They really are cute!  They come with a canvas pull string bag so that you have a place to store the feelings when not in use.  Also along with the feelings, there is also a little book that tells you all about the different plush characters, Kimochis, and even gives you activity ideas which I found to be pretty great.
Both of my kids love playing with Huggtopus and they have a lot of fun with him.  He has honestly made things a little more peaceful in our house too.  I still can’t believe how much he has been helpful.  As I mentioned before, our four year old throws tantrums quite often.  He pretty much skipped through the terrible twos so I guess he has to make up for it.  He also has a little jealousy issue with his baby brother that we are working through right now.  But, Huggy comes through.  We got our son putting his feelings inside Huggy and then he hugs him.  It was that simple and his mood seems to change – for the most part at least.
Our daughter may be in that strange age category but she is also mildly autistic and has other learning disabilities as well including ADD/ADHD and she really doesn’t have any idea what-so-ever how to control her feelings.  Huggy has been a great learning tool and also gives her a way to express her feelings a little better.  Since there are only 3 feelings that are included with the plush characters, I wrote more feelings on paper and we use those too.  You can get 3 different feelings packs to go along with your plush character for $12.  I think I might just do that because after looking around Kimochis site, they seem to have a lot of different feelings.  The Kimochis Feel Guide book also gives us parents great activity ideas to use and even teaches us how to listen and communicate.  These activities are great to build confidence and character and teaches them that it is okay to feel the way that they do – that their feelings do matter and that there are better ways to express those feelings.
I have to honestly say, Kimochis are now one of my favorite toys my kids have.  I still can’t get over how helpful Huggtopus has been and at the same time he is really fun to play with.  He even makes learning about feelings fun!  I have to give a special thanks to Nina Rappaport Rowan (I hope you don’t mind me mentioning you) for first creating these wonderful plush toys and giving my family the opportunity to love Huggy!

The product was sent to me for free by the company for my use and review. I was not paid to write my review and my opinions are 100% my own.
