K’NEX Micro-Bots, Construction Crew Series, and more Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

My daughter loves playing with K’NEX.  She has been playing with them for almost two years now and our 4 year old had started to get into the ones that are suitable for his age too.  I was very excited when I found out that I was going to do a review for K’NEX!  K’NEX was very generous and sent my family 13 building sets to play with and review.  K’NEX are building toys where kids can show their creativity and build all kinds of cool things.  It’s great for learning to read instructions, develope hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills.  Our kids have fun with them for hours!
We received the Fire Rescue 10 Model Set that included 127 parts to create 10 different models.  There are instructions on how to build each one.  Of course since my son is crazy about fire trucks, he insisted on building the fire truck.  This set is recommended for ages 5+ but our son does pretty well with it.  I would just use your best judgement when it comes to buying these sets for your kids.  He needed help building his fire truck (did most of it himself though) because that model is a little more complex but the other models such as the airplane or the helicopter was a bit easier and he did most of those himself – he just needed a little help when it came to the instructions.  Along with this set is a spring motor that doesn’t require batteries.  With the motor, you can see some of the vehicles in motion!  This set has mostly block pieces that remind me a little like legos but there are still a few rods and things with them.
We also received 4 building sets in the Construction Crew Series also recommended for ages 5+ which included a Backhoe, an Excavator, a Front Loader and a Steam Roller.  This is also great because our son is obsessed with construction vehicles.  In these sets, there are also a lot of the block type peices which makes them great for his age.  There are also brick plates that are included and you can build on the plate.  You can also add the other plates that come with the other sets to make your own construction site.  Also included with the sets is a K”NEX man that can operate the vehicles after they are built.  Again, with these sets, my son needed a little help mostly because he hasn’t quite gotten the hang of following the instructions but with help, he can build his vehicles mostly by himself.  He is a year younger than the age recommendations and he does pretty well with them but some kids may be okay with them while others his age may not.
The other Series we received were the Micro-Bots which included Hopper, Scooter, Speedy, and Crawler.  There are four building sets in this series and they are all motorized bots that require 2 AA batteries which are not included.  These building sets are receommended for ages 7+ which are perfect for our almost 9 year old daughter.  She can get these bots put together all by herself.  The parts in these sets are pretty small so you should keep these away from smaller kids.  There are only a few parts that are block parts.  Most of the peices are rods and connectors.  Not only are these sets great for hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills, they are great for teaching kids how things work!
They each have moving parts and when I say they move – they move!  Scooter looks more like a robot and when she had him together and turned it on, he started walking or should I say running accross the coffee table!  It was a lot of fun to watch.  You can also mix and match and be creative to build anything you want.  My daughter is more of a collector these days so she keep all her Bots put together and plays with them that way.
The Sesame Street sets that we received included Kick It! Elmo, Swim Time Ernie, and Cookie Monster’s Basketball.  These sets are recommended for ages 2-5 years.  These were really easy for my son to put together and he got them together in no time without even looking at any of the instructions.  The parts are mostly blocks and the characters even come with a ball or in Ernie’s case, a sea shell that can be held in the chracters’ hand.  The pieces are kind of chunky so they are perfect for the age recommendations.
I had my nephew over (he’s 3 years old) and I got these out for him to play with while our older kids were playing with the bigger sets.  He had a lot of fun with them and he didn’t have many problems with them.  These sets are really cute and are perfect for the youngins and great for gross motor skills at that age.
Last but not least, we recieved a 350 piece tub of K’NEX with the age recommendation of 7+.  This tub is a great starter set and you can build all kinds of cool stuff with them.  Included is an instruction book with different model ideas.  Of course, creativity and imagination is a great way to build with them!  We love K’NEX and everything about them!
The product was sent to me for free by the company for my use and review. I was not paid to write my review and my opinions are 100% my own.
