I absolutely love any children’s books and my kids would tell you they have tons of them. Our 9 year old daughter loves to read and our 4 year old son loves books just as much even though he doesn’t know how to completely
read yet. He’s definitely close though and there are a lot of words that he can read. All of our kids love being read to including our 9 year old sometimes. I was given a wonderful opportunity to review Debra Sartell’s Time for Bed, Baby Ted
was born and raised in Michigan and later moved out to California after her first semester of college. She studied theater and mime. She later studied art and child psychology and she kept a constant stay with her journal writing and poetry throughout the years. With all her wonderful interests, she ended up having a career of booking stand-up comedy, producing theatre and casting films for over 16 years and she loved her work.
Time for Bed, Baby Ted
is Debra’s first published book. After she had her son, she began writing children’s picture books. Photographs were her inspiration and started adding her poetry to her pictures and so she went down the path to write picture books. Time for Bed Baby Ted
actually came from looking back on her pictures when her husband was trying to put their son to bed!
Time for Bed, Baby Ted
starts out with a dad reading a book about animals to his son Ted before bedtime. When the book starts, his dad was finishing up and tells Ted it’s time to get ready for bed. Ted wasn’t ready for bed so he said, “I’m not baby Ted. I can’t go to bed. Try and guess what I am instead.”
The next page illustrates Ted clapping his arms together and the page says “And he started snap, SNAP, SNAPPING.”
Of course his dad plays along and guesses that he is a “baby crocodile”. Ted continues along pretending to be other animals and his dad continues to play along.
Ted goes through his bed time routine pretending to be another animal and not “baby Ted”. He has his snack, goes to the bathroom, brushes his teeth, and heads to his bedroom. All the while he is doing these things, he went from being a baby crocodile to a baby duck, then a baby frog, a bat, a penguin and quite a few more with this very imaginative little boy! It’s a very cute story about a little boy’s dad getting him ready for bed and by the end of the story, Ted did it all by himself!
I love how this story rhymes and it’s kept simple for little ones to easily follow along. The story is written brilliantly while the illustrations are just as darling. There are simple action words as well that are repeated. These show up with all the different animals that Ted “becomes”. The third time the action word is repeated, it’s in all caps and in red. I think this is really great because it’s an action word that sticks out above the rest. By now, our 4 year old knows those words when he sees them and likes to act them out himself! I think it’s a really fun book and is one of our 4 year old’s favorite story to hear before bedtime.
The illustrations are also fun to look at because they clearly identify what animal Ted is at that time along with the action word so it makes it fun for kids to guess what animal Ted is before you read more. Our kids like this story especially our son. This is a great book to read anytime but it’s also fun to read before bed. If you have a child that is hard to put to bed, try acting out or playing along with this book through his/her bedtime routine and make a fun game out of it!
The product was sent to me for free by the company for my use and review. I was not paid to write my review and my opinions are 100% my own.
