has a lot of great products for kids. My kids were thrilled to have the opportunity to try out the Young Picasso Art Kit
from Noodle Head
! We were sent the complete kit which includes one large canvas (16″ x 12″), two mini canvases (5″ x 7″), five tubes of paint in the colors of white, black, blue, yellow, and red. There are also two paint brushes, a palette that has ten divisions, and there is even a color mixing chart. In the instruction booklet, there are introductions to a few famous artists that your kids can learn about including Picasso of course!
We have two very different artists in our home. Of course there is a big age difference but they both still have their own styles. Our daughter is 9 years old and loves to color and draw. Our 4 year old son isn’t into coloring books as much and prefers to draw. Our daughter likes to draw real things like people, animals, houses, etc. while our son lives to draw shapes, lines, etc. He’s our abstract artist. I know he’s only 4 and he still can’t draw very many things but he can draw people and other simple things but he really likes to just draw with nothing in particular in mind.
They both enjoy painting! Our daughter painted both the smaller canvases because she is a bit neater when it comes to painting. I figured the big canvas would be easier for our son to paint so he used the big canvas. The paint is acrylic paint and it could stain clothing so before you start, you should probably make sure your kids are wearing a smock or an old shirt that covers their clothing. I also covered my table with an old plastic table cover that I still had from a birthday party just in case they got paint on my dining room table.
I had given them both a cup to rinse their brushes after each color of paint they use. You should rinse the brush well and make sure it’s as clear from paint and excess water as much as you can. There were a couple times when our son didn’t get his brush as dry as he should have and it made the paint a little thinner when he was painting on his canvas but it still wasn’t much of a problem. Every once in a while, our son would end up smearing something together on his canvas a few times blending colors together but that was because he used a little too much paint.
I wouldn’t say that the paint dries really quickly completely, but it dries well enough so that you can use another color on top of something already painted without blending the colors. I thought the paints were great. It went on the canvas very smoothly and the colors were wonderful. I mixed some paint to make a few extra colors for them and they went to town!
Here’s our little abstract artist!
I thought the Young Picasso Art Kit
was great. It was easy for our kids to use and they didn’t have any problems with the paints at all other than our son using a little too much of it from time to time which was not at all fault of the product. They both had a lot of fun and painted beautiful pictures! We didn’t have any problems with any of the paint staining anything either. To my surprise, my kids didn’t get any paint on themselves whatsoever which is downright a miracle but of course I got a little on my shirt and I wasn’t even paintiing – go figure!
It is recommended that you let your paintings sit to dry for 12 to 24 hours. Our kids’ painting dried faster than that though. After about 5 hours, I went ahead and hung up our son’s painting in his room and our daughter has hers on her desk. I checked them out and they felt completely dry and they weren’t sticky at all so I figured they would be okay and it turns out that they were. I guess it depends on how much paint was used.
The age recommendations are for ages 4 years and older. I think it’s a great way for kids to express their creativity! It has also won Creative Child Magazine – 2005 Toy of The Year Award. This is definitely another great product from Noodle Head
The product was sent to me for free by the company for my use and review. I was not paid to write my review and my opinions are 100% my own.
