Boots Botanics Ionic Clay Mask Review #powerofplants

As a member of Influenster, I received a VoxBox filled with products to try for free.  One of the products that I received in my box was Boots Botanics Ionic Clay Mask.  I was really interested in trying it just because I had never actually tried a clay mask before.  Let me tell you, it was a very pleasant experience!  Boots Botanics Clay Mask is designed for use on normal skin and deeply cleanses and removes impurities.  It is hypo-allergenic and absorbs excess oil.  “The oceanic clay exhibits a negative electrical charge, which helps draw out impurities without overdrying, leaving your skin feeling softer and smoother.”

Before I started, I made sure to wash my face before I started to apply the mask.  First I patted my face with warm water and then I washed my face with my favorite cleanser from Sibu Beauty with warm water just as I normally do each night.  Warm water tends to open up pores which is why I always use warm water.  Then I just patted my face with a towel when I was finished and took a deep breath.  I wasn’t sure what I should’ve expected from this clay mask since I had never used one before.

I made sure to shake up the tube really well so that I could make sure that the product was mixed really well.  Then I squeezed out a little in the palm of my hand.  That little bit that you see above in my hand was all that I needed.  I stared at for a minute before I started applying thinking “do I really want to do this?”  I don’t know what my problem was, I really don’t.  I guess just the thought of trying something new like this was weirding me out.  But I started.  I just dabbed my finger in the clay I was holding and put it on my face.

It was more like painting my face.  You don’t rub it into your skin or anything.  Just smear it all over your face where you want to.  After I started applying it, the areas where I had it made my skin feel pretty good and to be sure I got the whole first time experience, I wanted to be sure to cover my whole face.  It didn’t take long and I made sure to avoid my eyes and lips.  I probably could have easily gotten a little closer to my eyes and lips but next time I will have a better idea of what I am doing.  It really wasn’t messy to apply at all.  What I had left in my hand rinsed off without any problems when I was finished.

It was a sort of dark green when I first started and as it dried, the color started getting lighter.  It does start to dry pretty quickly and I noticed my skin feeling tighter and tighter.  Being new to me, I actually thought this was pretty cool and I was seriously loving how my skin was feeling underneath.  After it was basically pretty much completely dry, I started my 10 minute timer and left my bathroom.  The next part was icing on top.  My husband was sitting in the living room and I think I kind of surprised him when I came out and sat down.  It was pretty funny I have to admit.  I mean, It really isn’t all that attractive!  And of course he had to poke fun at me.

When my time was up, I went in and started to wipe it off my face.  I used a dry paper towel to do this because the clay mask flakes and comes off powdery like.  I don’t think it would do much good if you used a wet towel.  I snapped a picture that you can see above of the flaked off clay.  It can be a little messy to remove because of this but I that much of this experience, I wasn’t really expecting anything different.  As I am working on removing it, which turned out fairly easy I noticed I had to keep my mouth closed because oven though a lot of it flaked off and fell, a lot more of it turned to powder and was floating and falling around my face.  There isn’t a smell to it though, it’s pretty unscented.  I did have to use a little pressure (not a whole lot) while wiping it off and a couple areas had to wipe more than others.

I tried my best with before and after pictures that you see above.  I couldn’t believe the difference after just one use.  In the before picture, you can see a bumpier texture to my skin while in the second one, my skin is a bit smoother.  I get blackheads a lot in those areas and that’s why I have a bumpy texture high on my cheeks and nose.  The clay mask really minimized that and even removed quite a bit of blackheads for me that my cleanser might have missed.  Plus whatever blackheads that may have appeared the next day was taken care of.  I rinsed my face with cool water after making sure I got all the clay removed.  Patted my face with a towel and couldn’t believe the appearance of my skin just after that one use.

I couldn’t get over how soft and smooth my skin felt!  It did look like my skin was dry afterward but it didn’t feel like it was.  But that’s something I always expect with my skin anyway.  Even after using my facial cleanser.  So I went ahead and used my favorite facial moisturizer, Nourish Organic and was good to go.  I absolutely loved it.  Thanks to Boots and Influenster, I now have a new weekly ritual!

The Boots Botanics Ionic Clay Mask retails for $9.39 for a 3.3 oz tube and can be bought from the Boots USA website or Target.
