Ipsy Beauty Bag Subscription “Beauty Rocks” April 2014 with Video

My April Ipsy Bag arrived a couple days ago!  This month’s theme is “Beauty Rocks”.  The bag is super cute, I can’t tell if it’s a really dark blue or if it’s purple but I love the look of it with the record pictured on it.  It has a black lining with black zipper and of course the Ipsy zipper pull is also black.  The bag is cloth-like, more like a vinyl and is really pliable.  Included in this month’s bag is 5 products, 2 of which are full size while the other three are travel sizes or generous deluxe samples.

Inside the bag:

  • Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm (Full Size) $19.00
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-on Eye Pencil (Travel Size) $13.00
  • City Color White Gold Shadow & Highlight Mousse (Full Size) $3.99
  • Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant Crème (Deluxe Sample) $9.75
  • Big Sexy Hair Root Pump Volumizing Spray Mousse (Travel Size) $2.50

I did my best doing the math when it came to the travel sizes and deluxe sample sizes.  For those the value I came up with are approximate values.

Total approx. value of bag:  $48.24

Big Sexy Hair Root Pump Volumizing Spray Mousse – I have not actually used this product because I really don’t have a need for it.  It does smell pretty good though.  Full Size 10.6 oz $17.oo

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant Crème – This can be used for all skin types.  So far, I have only used once.  It does say to use once or twice a week.  After I dampen my skin with warm water (warm water opens pores), massage the crème onto skin for only 1-2 minutes and then rinse well and pat dry.  I thought the crème was easy to apply and loved how my skin felt.  The skin on my face did feel a little smoother afterward but since I have only used this once, I haven’t yet seen any major improvements just yet.  Full Size 60 g $78.00

City Color White Gold Shadow & Highlight Mousse – Having never used this type of product before, I wasn’t really sure what to do with it.  I ended up using it as a base eye color.  It is really creamy and does take a bit to dry or set.  I took it all the way close to my brow area so I didn’t have to use a light shadow for highlighting.  When it was dry or set, it blended fairly well with my other shadow.  The color is mostly white with just a hint of light gold.  It is shimmery and I always have fallout when applying regular shadows no matter what I do.  It is nice having a shimmer shadow and not have to worry about it since it is a cream/mousse.  Full Size 2.6 g $3.99

Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-on Eye Pencil – The color I received was velvet black and I love this product.  It really does glide on really well.  I typically use a liquid eye liner instead of pencils because I can work with it better and a little easier.  This eye pencil however, it really easy to use and apply.  It dries and sets almost immediately.  This is really awesome because it doesn’t smudge much at all.  Of course it may be a little difficult when it comes to wanting to use a smudge brush so if you are going to need to smudge it, you will want to do that almost immediately.  Full Size 1.2 g $20.00

Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm – I love it!  It doesn’t even feel like I am wearing anything on my lips.  There isn’t any shine or gloss to it, just color.  If I want shine or gloss, I just add a coat of lip gloss.  I would suggest to make sure your lips are well moisturized because the color of the balm is pigmented really well and it may be noticeable if your lips aren’t smooth.  Unless of course you add the gloss on top.  It does a great job at keeping my lips feeling moist and soft though.  I would also suggest using the applicator brush with it because it’s easier to apply that way and you don’t have to try to get the color off your finger.  Full Size $19.00

Is Ipsy worth it? – Absolutely!

I always say this and once again, totally worth my $10.  I have been an Ipsy subscriber for 8 months now and love it.  I have been happy with each bag and they have all been valued at over $10 so in my opinion, it’s worth the money.  I have only received one bag so far that was just a bit “so-so” but you will get that every once in a while with any subscription such like this.  This month there was only one product that I didn’t really care for – the Big Sexy Hair product but all the others made up for it.  However, Ipsy is the only one that I know of that does a pretty good job of getting you full size products and send you products that actually fits you.  The products that are sent to you are selected and sent to you depending on your preferences with what is called IpsyMatch.  This means that the products that you will receive, you will most likely get use out of them.  If you sign up, you may be put on a waitlist (I was on the waitlist for no longer than 5 weeks) but you will NOT be charged until you come off and your subscription actually starts.

There’s also perks to being an Ipsy subscriber.  I have actually connected with a few other “Ipsters” because of the way Ipsy website is designed.  That’s always fun and it’s fun to see what looks others have come up with.  Another awesome perk is earning Ipsy points.  You can earn points for giving feedback on the products you receive each month and you can also earn points with a personal referral link.  Once you earn enough points, you can choose a full size extra time.  The selection one what you can choose varies and they change them every once in a while.
