Say Goodnight with Playbrites – Playbrites Shark Review #Playbrites #PlayNGlow @PlayBrites

*I received product mentioned in this post for free in exchange for my review and feedback. All opinions are 100% my own.*

Not too long ago I was asked if my family would like to review Playbrites. We were sent one to our home to check out. My son was really excited to get it opened up as soon as it arrived. We received a Playbrites Shark and he loves this thing.

What are Playbrites?

Playbrites are a really neat toy that can be played with in two ways. It reminds me of a Mr.Potato Head that lights up. It can change into 6 different colors as you can see above. There’s purple, green, red, orange, blue, and white. The colors change as you press down on the toy. After cycling through the colors, there is also an automatic color cycling too.

When the Playbrite is lit up, you can see shapes all over the the eggshape body of the toy. Shapes like stars, moons, fish and a couple others. If you remove the top half of the body, you can use the projector inside the toy to display these shapes on near walls in a dark room. Playbrites comes with 7 face pieces including feet and these can be put on the body of the toy much like a Mr. Potato Head.

It does require 3 AA batteries which are not included.

What is included?

When we first opened the Playbrites box, we took out what looked like an egg. This is the Playbrites body. After removing the wrapping, we were able to open the body. It comes apart in halves. Inside the body were 7 playbrites pieces. Since ours was a shark, there were a pair of eyes, two fins for the side of it’s body, a fin for the top, a mouth that looked quite comical and cute with pointy teeth, and feet.

There is also a handle that can be attached for easy carrying. The batteries are located at the bottom of the body.

What we thought

This toy is really cute. It’s become one of my youngest’s favorite toy. The face pieces are really fun and cute and the colors of the light is really great. It’s not so bright that it becomes annoying. It’s like a soft light but at the same time the colors are pretty vivid. Probably because it’s a long lasting LED light. The pieces can be stored inside the body too and can be mismatched with other Playbrites pieces. The only downside is that from what I can tell, you can just buy more face/character pieces separately. I am hoping this will change because I would love to buy more for my son’s without having to buy another Playbrites.

The pieces are easy to put on and take off while staying pretty secure on the body. The handle is optional. I do find that with the handle on, there are less problems with the body coming apart although it doesn’t happen very often. I have been pretty happy with the body halves staying together even without the handle on it. I have to warn you about the handle though. Once it is on, I noticed it is pretty difficult to take off. Which can be a good thing if you don’t want your child removing it. If you want to store pieces inside it or remove the top to use as a wall projector, you need to remove the handle though.

If you want to use it as a wall projector, you have to remove the top. When we first got ours, we thought the projector didn’t work on the wall as promised because nothing would show up. Reading the directions help which I did not do at first. The shapes show up fabulously on the body of the Playbrites when it’s all put together. On the wall, they do show up pretty well on the surrounding walls that are closest to it.

The lights look great in the daylight as well as nighttime. It works pretty well as a nightlight for kids who need one whether they are afraid of the dark or for whatever reason. They may also be great for restful sleep too. My son has never needed a nightlight but we have always used one at the bottom of our stairs in case any of them need to get up and come downstairs in the middle of the night. We live in a very rural area so we don’t have any ambient light outside. Even with the couple of nightlights we have in our house, our son likes to carry his Playbrite with him if he needs to make it to the bathroom in the middle of the night so he prefers to leave the handle on his.

Our son is a lot like me when it comes to sleep as well. He takes forever to actually fall asleep. He goes up to bed and lays there tossing and turning trying to get to sleep. The automatic color cycle on his Playbrites Shark has been helpful. It gives him something to look at and while staring at the colors changing, he can fall asleep faster. So not only has it been a fun toy, it’s also helped with sleep. There is also an automatic shut off for the light too.

Playbrites are so fun and they get a parent’s recommendation and a kid’s recommendation from my son and I!
