SepToys Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

I happened to come across SepToys one day and I very quickly became interested in them.  I was given the opportunity to work with SepToys on a review and they have been a new favorite in our household by both our older children and my husband and I.  SepToys is a family owned company that started in early September of last year.  SepToys are seven sided blocks that have a mirror design to them.  These are a lot different than regular cubed blocks because of they way they are shaped and designed.

SepToys have won many different awards in the short time that they started including: the Dr. Toy Best Picks for New Products, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award, Creative Child Magazine Top Toy of the Year, Mom’s Choice Award, PTPA Media Award, ASTRA Top 30 Toy List for Toy Fair 2010, the Toy Man Seal of Approval, the Toy Man Editor’s Favorite Award, and Toy Man Quarter 1 of 2010 Top Ten List.  SepToys were tested and meets all safety standards and are recommended for ages 4 years and older.  Not only has SepToys earned all these awards, they were also chosen as Toy of the Day on the Stephanie Oppenheim (of the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio) Toy Blog (October 18, 2009).  After using the SepToys set that we received from them, they have definitely earned every single one of them in my opinion!
“SepToys are designed for open-ended solutions, eliminating frustration while encouraging creativity and building self-confidence. There is no single solution. Instead, an almost infinite number of satisfying creative outcomes is possible. There is no wrong way to build with SepToys, so have fun finding new ways of creating!”
I can’t agree more with the claims from SepToys!  Everything they say above in quotes are absolutely true on so many levels.  These blocks are very educational and are great for children and adults as well.  They are mind stimulating and are a great learning tool for kids in all levels of school whether it’s preschool or high school.  SepToys are great for learning geometry with all the different surface shapes and their mirror image design opens the doors to learning about symmetry, balance, and placement.  They are great for developing visual skills, and fine motor skills.
My kids just love them!  They are definitely a great way for them to play with each other which is a good thing for our daughter.  With her disabilities, she has difficulties playing with other kids including her own brother.  She has grown and has adapted little by little over the years but still has trouble with it.  I have been really happy that SepToys has been helpful in that area and we have finally saw her actually help him and she will somewhat work together with him or even me or dad.  Our daughter actually playing and working together with someone no matter who it is has always been a problem but we have truly seen a difference with SepToys.
I’m really not sure why exactly but I think it’s because of how stimulating they are.  She gets bored really easy during play and prefers things that are more structured, stimulating and problem solving.  I think this is why she is able to bring herself into what others are doing around her.
Our four year old son plays with them all the time.  He hasn’t quite figured out how to look at the design examples that come with the set but he can do the simple ones with help.  I think they are a great way to play with you kids and even though he doesn’t know it, he is learning.  At this point in time, he just likes creating his own designs and that is just fine too.
SepToys allow your child to be creative and he gets so excited when he is finished with what he was making.  It makes him feel proud because he can play with them in so many ways instead of regular blocks that just fall over.  These are the first blocks that we have had that he hasn’t gotten frustrated with!  Even at four years old, I think he is learning about the mirror imaging because to put the SepToys away in the tray that they come in, you have to pair up the pieces because they are symmetrical.  He’s learning about the different shapes and sides and a little about symmetry already!
As you may have already read on my blog, our daughter’s disabilities include mild autism, ADD/ADHD.  After we have been using and playing with our SepToys, we have found them to be really helpful with children with these types of disabilities.  She is a visual learner and she has a better understanding about geometry, symmetry, and mirror design.  Seeing geometrical shapes on a sheet of paper only confused her so when it came time to learn simple geometry in class at school, she would often get confused or not really understand what was being asked.
As I have mentioned before, SepToys are also great for fine motor skills and she lacks a lot with fine motor skills.  They are also great for our four year old son in this area too as they would be for any children.  Our daughter is nine and she is below where she should be.  This is another area where SepToys have helped.  It took her some time but she was finally able to put together one of the medium design examples and was very proud of it!  She started with the simple ones for a while and went from there.  We have also noted and agree that SepToys can also be a therapeutic toy for those with disabilities as well.
The finished project
I highly recommend SepToys for any and all children.  There aren’t any frustrations because as they claim, there really isn’t a wrong way to play with them and they are open ended for any creation with unlimited possibilities.  They are even fun for adults too!  My husband and I play with them ourselves sometimes!  This mom and dad give SepToys 5 out of 5 stars and if we had more than two thumbs, they would get them all!  I can honestly say this is the best educational toy we have ever had in our home!
The product was sent to me for free by the company for my use and review. I was not paid to write my review and my opinions are 100% my own.
