It’s a new year and all I wanted to do was try to make some improvements and move on up so to speak. I have actually been trying to move to WordPress but right now, I don’t know if it’s going to happen or not. I purchased my domain, purchased my hosting package (free trial so I haven’t paid anything yet) and got set up on WordPress. Getting that far was pretty simple and easy to do. WordPress even makes it easy to import all your blog posts and comments from blogger or blogspot whichever you want to call it.
Everything was going smoothly up until that point. All my posts and comments transferred over without a problem. It took a while but went well. Then I got to the point not knowing what to do about my blog followers I have via Google Friend Connect because I couldn’t figure out how to take you guys with me. I finally found a plugin that allows Google Friend Connect on WordPress, however, I couldn’t get it to work. I have read at various places that taking Google Friend Connect followers isn’t possible switching to WordPress but I know there has to be a way beacause I follow a lot of blogs that made the move and they didn’t lose their following.
I did figure out how not to loose my PR, feed/readers/email subscribers by redirecting everything from here (there’s a bit to it so it’s kind of hard for me to explain right now) to my WordPress domain or whatever although I didn’t try that part yet to see if it actually works the way it’s supposed to because I was having a lot of other issues……
I have heard from countless people how easy WordPress is to use but I can’t figure it out for the life of me. After I chose my theme I tried adding plugins and widgets that I wanted to use but they wouldn’t show up on my page at all no matter how many times I tried. I can’t figure out how to add my blog buttons, links, etc. – well everything you see here on my sidebars. Nothing was working at all. The only thing I could figure out was how to post. I don’t know what it is but it doesn’t seem very user friendly to me – and I have been working all night at it!
If I don’t figure it out soon, I guess I will have to remove my posts from over there so that it doesn’t conflict with my PR since there are now duplicate reviews on two different sites now (I read somewhere that can mess up your PR). I guess it would be easier to wait a bit until I can hire someone to do the transfer for me and hopeful not lose followers, subscribers, readers – the whole nine. Of course if I can’t figure out how to even USE WordPress, that won’t do me any good anyway.
So I don’t know what I am going to do. I can cancel my host package without any cost because I have two weeks to decide if I want to keep it or not (which wasn’t expensive by the way – only about 7 bucks a month). The only cost I will have to eat is the price of my domain which again was pretty cheap too being less than 10 bucks for the whole year. At least I have my domain if the move doesn’t work out right now because I will have a year to figure it all out before I have to renew.
So guys, I may still be around Blogspot a little while longer…It just depends on how things work out.
By the way, I will be working on posting winners probably sometime today so that way they are out of the way and taken care of in case things do turn around. Also a note about the few giveaways that are still running are completely safe to leave comments to enter even though everything else is up in the air. There aren’t any worries about losing comments. Nothing here has been redirected or anything and is running like it always has.
If things do happen to change here and the move seems like it’s going to happen, I will definitely write a post update to let you all know.
You must have got it figured out since this isn’t blogspot anymore! I still use blogger. Trying to switch seems VERY scary to me!
