I was given the opportunity to work with Twin Sisters in the past to review a copy of their toddler sing along CD and my kids loved it. I was thrilled when they asked me if I would work with them again to review their new Five Little Bunnies board book. I love what Twin Sisters is all about offering different products including music, read along books, floor puzzles and more for kids of all ages. Their products encourage and stimulate learning and they keep learning exciting and fun through music. I think music is a great way to stimulate learning and also makes learning a lot more fun and easy!
Five Little Bunnies teaches the numbers 1-5 in a couple different ways and of course it’s also a read along book! The beginning of the book is an illustration of five little bunnies each with the number 1 through 5 under each one counting them. I love how the illustrations throughout the book also show the number of bunnies so that kids can also see the visual count in the illusrations as well as the number words in the text. Our youngest (1 1/2 years old) has a thing for kitty cats and bunnies so he loves this book! He loves turning the pages and I was surprised that he has even recognized some of the number words! The number words in the story stand out in bold text and each number word is also a different color. I think its great that these words stand out making them easier to learn. After all, Five Little Bunnies is all about learning the numbers 1-5!
I am pleased to say that our 5 year old son knows the book by heart now. He not only knows all the number words but has learned how to read a lot of the other text by reading along with the read along CD. The text is a great size for kids his age and the story also rhymes which I think makes learning to read easier for those beginners. The rhyming is also really cute! For example: “FOUR little bunnies playing by a tree. One hopped away and then there were THREE” Turn the page and it says “THREE little bunnies under skies so blue. One hopped away and then there were TWO.” The darling little story tells about all the bunnies in a counting down series until the end where they all come back together.
Our 5 year old didn’t just memorize the story either. I figured this out by pointing to some of the words that can be found in this book in another book and he remembered the words. The read along is the first track on the CD and it’s really cute because as the story is being read aloud, there is music in the background and you also hear bunnies hopping away. In my personal opinion, I think this is a great way to keep kids interested in the read aloud and keeps them into the story to follow along better. The read aloud narrator speaks very clearly and there was never a question as to what she says even without following along with the book.
Along with the Read Along track, there are 19 fun songs that is included on the CD that is included with Five Little Bunnies. They are:
1) Five Little Bunnies Read Along, 2) I can Wiggle, 3) She’ll Be Coming Around The Mountain, 4) If You’re happy And You Know It, 5)Head, Shoulders, Knees, And Toes, 6) Apples And Bananas, 7) Sing-A-Ling, 8 ) Can You Swing Your Arms?, 9) Look At The Monkeys, 10) Let Everyone Clap hands Like Me, 11) The Green Grass Grew All Around, 12) S-M-I-L-E, 13) Oats, Peas, Beans, And Barley Grow, 14) Do Your Ears hang Low?, 15) Down In The Valley, 16) Down By The Station, 17) If I had A Cat, 18) Traveling Is A Dream, 19) The Old Gray Mare, 20) It’s Silly Time
I love how there are some songs that are songs that my kids have heard before while others are not. My favorite is “The Green Grass Grew All Around”. That was one of my favorites as a kid and its a lot of fun singing along with my kids – even my older 9 year old! Our little guy loves the music. He loves to dance and his favorites are “head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” and “It’s Silly Time”. The lyrics are also included in PDF file! The run time of the whole CD is 32:30.
Overall, we really like this book! As a mom, I love how easy and fun it is to learn the numbers 1-5 and love that my older son enjoys reading along. I think it’s a great reading tool and the music is fabulous! The illustrations are so cute and adorable with all the cuddly bunnies and the shape of the book is absolutely darling. I love the die cut bunny shaped book!
