I love Twin Sisters products and the way they promote learning! I have always thought learning through music makes learning a lot easier and of course a lot more fun! I have worked with Twin Sisters quite a few times in the past and was thrilled to receive another opportunity to work with them on a review. We were sent their Number Train Floor Puzzle that also includes a Music CD and Activity Book for our use and review.
The Number Train Floor Puzzle consists of 27 jumbo puzzle pieces and they are really durable and long lasting. This is important to me because I have two boys that can be destructive at times. When the puzzle is complete, it measures 6 feet long and 7 inches high. The pieces are also glossy so if they need wiped off or anything, they are easily cleaned.Â
The age reccomendations are for ages 4 to 10 years old but our almost 2 year old liked to try to help is brother put it together. He enjoyed taking it apart more than anything though! The pieces are durable enough to survive through him getting ahold of them so that’s a BIG bonus for me! I love all the animals inside each train car. Each train car has the numbers 1 through 20 which of course I love. I think it’s great to have a product that counts higher than 10. This has been really helpful to our 5 year old son that is getting ready to head into kindergarten. He can count to 20 and higher without any problems but when it comes to putting the numbers together in order once he reaches the teens, he sometimes gets a little confused. I can happily say that the Number Train Floor Puzzle has been pretty helpful with this! Each car has the same number of animals that match that car’s number too so it’s also fun to count all the animals!
The puzzle pieces fit together perfectly and there has never been any problems getting the pieces to fit. They stay together well whether it is sitting on hard floors or carpet (we do have short carpet though). The puzzle is easy for our 5 year old to put together but not so easy that it would make you question whether or not it is TOO easy for your child. Most of the pieces fit with the numbers one right after the other but every once in a while, you will have to find a piece that will actually form the next number. I like this because it makes it a little more challenging and finding all the right pieces and putting them in order is a wonderful way to not only learn number sequencing but also picture sequencing. Like all puzzles it also promotes problem solving and other developmental skills!Â
By the way, our son likes to push the 6 foot puzzle across the floor when finished and pretend that the train is moving. This should tell you how well the pieces stay together!
The Number Train Music CD includes 12 counting songs that are fun to listen to and really fun to sing. They are all pretty catchy and very helpful when it comes to counting! Our 2 year old son just adores these songs and he loves to dance with them. The rhythm is perfect for him to even try to sing along to. The songs are as follows:
1. How Many Ducks?
2. One Lonely Bird
3. Five Little Skunks
4. Six Little Ducks
5. Ten Little Fish
6. Ten in the Bed
7. Counting to Ten
8. I Can Count From 1 to 20
9. Counting to 20
10. Counting By Tens
11. Learning to Add Is Fun
12. Just One More
“Learning to Add Is Fun” and “Counting By Tens” has been a wonderful tool for our 5 year old. He’s already counting my tens now limitlessly and he knows how to add AND subtract basic numbers. I think when it comes to numbers and basic math, he’s well on his way to knowing how to already do it even before school starts! Included on the CD is a 48 page activity book in PDF that you can print from your computer. The pages are colorful and there are all kinds of different number/math activities that your child can do with pictures and illustrated activities. Our son has a dry erase pocket folder so we can insert the sheets and he can re-use them as many times as he likes. He really enjoys doing these activities too as he calls them his “homework”. We shall see how that changes by the time he gets to that point in school! Overall, the Number Train Floor Puzzle is absolutely a wonderful product and a great tool for learning numbers, counting, and a little basic math facts!
