I love Halo products and what they are all about. They are very compassionate when it comes to sleep and crib safety and their innovative products such as their sleepwear, bedding, and crib sets helps with making sure our babies sleep safely. Halo’s Mission: Helping Babies Sleep Safely. Halo’s founder and his wife lost their firstborn to SIDS and for over 15 years they have been educating parents about safe sleep and they also support non-profit organizations such as First Candle/SIDS Alliance. I have been given the opportunity to work with Halo in the past on a review and am honored to recieve another opportunity to do so again. I was sent one of their 5 Piece Safe Sleep Crib Sets “My Dog Sam” theme and I love it! I would say it’s a must have for anyone with a baby.
The Safe Sleep Crib Set comes with 2 different patterned fitted sheets, a crib skirt, a SleepSack Wearable Blanket, and a SleepSack Swaddle. You will notice that this isn’t your typical crib set you would normally see with a crib bumper or a comforter blanket. The reason for not including a bumper is actually really simple. The less you dress up the crib with, the safer. This information isn’t just for new parents either. Like myself, I never really thought about some of these safer sleep practices until our 3rd baby. I have always used a crib bumper when our daughter was a baby 11 years ago. I even used one with our second baby but eventually got rid of it. With our last one, I didn’t use one.
Here’s why. In our experience after having three kids, it finally hit me with our second child. What is really the point with a crib bumper? They never stay in place, they are constantly coming untied, and it really doesn’t help keep baby from getting his legs on the other side of it to get his leg stuck in the crib bars. After our second son has his crib bumper completely off and had it wrapped around him (thankfully it was just around his waist and loosely as well), when I went to get him up from his nap, I took it out of there never to use one again. He was still pretty little when this happened too. I can’t remember now how old he was then but I know he was rolling and “scooting” at the time. He wasn’t even sitting up yet. I never would have thought that he would have the whole thing off when he was still that young.
The fitted sheets in this set are really great. They fit a standard size crib mattress/toddler bed mattress and stay on the mattress really well. This is really important to me because the one thing I can’t stand the most is fitted sheets that come off the mattress. When it comes to little ones, it is a big must that they don’t come off very easy or at all. It’s just as important as not having extra blankets in the crib. I have always had the fear that a fitted sheet would come undone and my little baby would have it over his or her head causing a suffocation hazard. I will say it again, these sheets stay put on the mattress! Here is a personal tip: No matter what fitted sheets you are using, eventually the elastic may get worn down after being used and washed so many times. Please make sure to inspect how well they stay put every so often!
Of course I also LOVE the colors and patterns of the sheets. They go really well with the crib skirt which I will get too shortly. There is a solid blue fitted sheet and a light blue and white pin striped fitted sheet with the “My Dog Sam” Sleep Safe Crib Set. There is not a comforter or blanket with this crib set either. Instead, it includes a SleepSack and SleepSack Swaddle which is really great and so much safer than blankets!
The Halo SleepSack Wearable Blanket is so much safer because there isn’t any chance of baby covering his face up with a loose blanket. You just lay baby inside, put his arms through and zip him up. The zipper goes all the way to the bottom so the design makes it really easy to put on. There is plenty of room for little feet to move around. There is also plenty of room for a newborn to grow into too. The SleepSack Swaddle is also a SleepSack Wearable Blanket with a Swaddle built in. It works just like the wearable blanket and then you wrap the swaddle. I LOVE this because instead of using large receiving blankets to swaddle and come loose throughout the night, there aren’t any worries with this. I love how the SleepSack Wearable Blanket and SleepSack Swaddle is very breathable. It keeps baby warm and cool at the same time! These are much better than using blankets and helps to reduce the dangerous risks.
The crib skirt is so adorable! It has contrasting colors and patterns in different shades of blue, red and yellow and is one of the most adorable crib skirts I have ever seen. The fitted sheets (both colors) match beautifully. I love the little puppy on the SleepSack and SleepSack Swaddle. The puppy looks like a patchwork design and the patterns and colors match the fitted sheets and crib skirt! The embroidery on them is done really well and really beautiful. With the Halo Safe Sleep Crib Set, you can dress up your baby’s nursery and crib and still make it look very adorable and beautiful without dressing up the crib with the dreadful bumper and blankets. “No loose blankets. No Bumpers. For Safer Sleep.”
