“Playmates Toys is giving birth to a new generation of baby dolls with the re-launch of the incredibly popular Waterbabies line; the water-filled dolls that offer a unique play experience for girls. First introduced in 1991, Waterbabies quickly became the number one doll in America, and maintained that spot for four years. Each unique doll features patented water-filled technology to simulate the look and feel of a real baby, encouraging girls to comfort, soothe, nurture and bond with their baby doll.”
“The new Waterbabies line features new themes and fashions, giving a modern twist to these beloved baby dolls, while still embracing the classic caring and nurturing play pattern. “
The new Waterbabies dolls for 2012 include “I Dream to Be”, “Twins”, and “Giggly Wiggly”. The Twins Waterbabies come with two dolls and there are two different sets. One set is twin baby girls – the “Twincesses” and they are fashioned with princess crowns. The other version is the “Two Tweet Twins” which will be available this Fall. These twins are fraternal which include a baby boy and baby girl dressed in coordinating outfits. Each twin set comes with two baby bottles. The new “Giggly Wiggly” dolls look and sound really cute. My daughter is already asking me for one. They giggle and they also suck their included bottle and pacifier! I think it’s great because Waterbabies were designed to feel and look more like a real baby and to add giggles and make them look like they are really cucking their bottle or pacifier gives them more realistic features. I have been waiting for a Waterbabies doll like this!
When I was contacted by Playmates Toys to do a review I was thrilled. I remember having one when I was a kid (that was when they were first introduced). My sister and I both had them and I remember them being our favorite baby dolls. My daughter enjoys them too and she was also really thrilled about the new Waterbabies dolls! We were sent one of their “I Dream to Be” Waterbabies dolls and it’s really adorable! My daughter received “I Dream to Be a Fairy” doll and she loves it!
She is dressed like a fairy and even has wings attached to the back of her little outfit and is fashioned with the cutest headband. These dolls are 9 inch dolls and there are 6 different ones featuring a different theme. Each different theme tells the story as to what each baby “dreams to be”. They also included an assotment of different eye color, hair color and races. I think they are the perfect size to play with too especially for younger kids since they are filled with water. They are recommended for ages 2 years and older and as a mom, I definitely recommend them. Their soft bodies are perfect for little ones and what little girl wouldn’t love to have a doll that looks and feels a bit more like a real baby?!
Included with the doll is pink funnel to fill the doll with water. You only want to use cool or only lukewarm water – not hot water. The plug is located on the back of the doll which is covered by the doll’s outfit. After you open the plug, you insert the funnel until it snaps in place. The valve is an inner valve to prevent water from leaking. You want to fill the doll slowly and while you are filling it, you may need to “burp” the excess air out of the doll. Just press or squeeze gently and the air will “burp” out. Keep filling this way until you can’t burp anymore air out. Then remove the funnel which will make the inner valve close and won’t leak water while you close the plug. Only the body of the doll is filled with water and not the head.
My daughter loves her! I love the doll’s little features. Her feet and toes are made to look a bit more realistic and so are her hands. Not only does the “Dream to Be” Waterbabies dolls feel more like a real baby, care was really taken into the molding and designing of these dolls! Another great thing about their soft bodies is that if my daughter wanted to change her doll’s clothes, she can do it a lot more easier than a lot of her other baby dolls.
A doll that is constantly filled with water may be a concern for some. These dolls have been treated with a safe antibacterial agent. It is safe for water to be left inside them however, it is recommended by the manufacturer to change the water once a week. To change the water, all you have to do is insert the funnel to open the inner valve to drain the water out. We have never experienced any water leakage, mold or mildew or anything of the sort. I would definitely recommend them and the “Dream to Be” Waterbaies are so adorable! Two thumbs up from this mom and 5 thumbs up from my daughter even though she only has two thumbs!
