I am a little late getting this posted. I received my Ipsy beauty bag on the 20th this month so it was a little late. I usually get mine on the 15th of each month give or take one day. Anyway, this month is themed “Beauty Schooled” and this is the August 2014 glam bag. The bag is cute although I’m not sure if I would actually use it. Maybe keep it in the bathroom and put all my makeup brushes in it. But it is a plastic bag and it’s shaped like a cylinder. The colors are really cute, white and orange with polka dots.
What’s in the bag?
- Urban Decay Perversion Mascara (Deluxe) $5.50
- J. Cat Beauty Flying Solo Eye Shadow (Full) $2.99
- Jersey Shore Sun Mongongo Lip Conditioner (Full) $5.50
- Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo Shimmer Lotion (Deluxe) $7.00
- StriVectin Present Perfect Anti-oxidant Defense Lotion (Deluxe) $14.00
Total Approximate Value $34.99
I did the best I could with the values of the deluxe sizes. I did the math with the deluxe sizes and full size amounts and prices. They are only approximate values.
Urban Decay Perversion Mascara – I love Urban Decay products and was excited to receive the Perversion Mascara even though I already have tons of mascara. I really like this mascara because it glides on my lashes without really clumping at all. It dries quickly without flaking away and lasts all day. I normally do one coat and then after my final touch ups on my makeup, apply one more coat lightly. I typically do this with any mascara I use. The color is black and it’s a true black color. I haven’t noticed any issues with it running or anything either. I also think that it makes my lashes look a lot fuller than they really are. I think I found a new favorite mascara. Full Size .4 fl oz $22.00.
StriVectin Present Perfect Antioxidant Defense Lotion – I haven’t really had a chance to form much of an opinion of this product. I only used it a few times so far. It is supposed to be used on your face and I do think it feels nice on my skin after I wash my face at night. It does feel like it hydrates and moisturizes my skin and keeps it from drying out after washing. I haven’t really noticed a difference in the way my skin feels or looks just yet. Again, I have only used it a few times. The deluxe size that I received wasn’t very big at all but it doesn’t take much at all when I use it – there’s definitely enough there to use maybe two weeks or so. I might have a better opinion of it by then. Full Size 1.7 fl oz $59.00.
Jersey Shore Mongongo Lip Conditioner – I really like this product. It’s like a lip balm and conditions really well. My lips feel very hydrated and moisturized immediately after using it. It doesn’t really feel greasy or sticky although you can tell you are wearing it. I like using it under lip color as well and it doesn’t have any negative affects of the way my lip color looks. It has a citrusy smell to it and I think I can smell a bit of mango but mostly mandarin orange . Doesn’t really have a taste or aftertaste if I lick my lips either. After using it for a few days, I have noticed my lips feel softer even without using it. It’s also anti-aging and USDA organic. Full Size .15 oz $5.50.
Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo Shimmer Lotion – This is another product that I was really interested in trying. I mainly use it on my face and neck. It’s a tinted lotion that has a slight shimmer finish to it. Sometime If I don’t feel like wearing foundation (which happens a lot when it’s hot), I just use this product. Sometimes I use it like any other tinted primer as well and use it under face powder. It does seem to give my skin a slight glow. The shimmer is pretty slight which I appreciate. It’s great for all skin tones and I found that it easily blended with my skin tone and did so pretty naturally. It’s also nice because since it’s a lotion form, it also moisturizes and it doesn’t feel heavy or make my skin wish it could breathe. Full Size 1 oz $29.00.
J. Cat Beauty Flying Solo Eye Shadow – This flying solo eye shadow is a single shadow. The color that I received is “half naked”. I love this color. It’s like a light tan color and it is a shimmery shadow but at the same time it’s like a matte shadow. I guess you can say it’s kind of in-between which is fine by me. Most of the time when I do my eye shadow, I always create more of a natural look so the brown/tan color is perfect for me. It blends well with other shadows and the color is pigmented fairly well. What I love about this little compact is that the shadow pot flips up and there is a little mirror on the other side and the inside of it holds a little brush. The little brush isn’t a big deal though because I have makeup brushes that I use. I’m really happy with this shadow. Full Size 2.5 g $2.99.
Is Ipsy worth it? – Absolutely!
I always say this and once again, totally worth my $10. I have been an Ipsy subscriber for 12 months now and love it. I have been happy with each bag and they have all been valued at over $10 so in my opinion, it’s worth the money. I have only received two bags so far that was just a bit “so-so” but you will get that every once in a while with any subscription such like this. I was pretty happy with the products in this month’s bag although I probably could have gone without the StriVectin Lotion. But I can always count on some great products, some of them being full size and others being very generous deluxe samples. All the deluxe samples I have ever received has enough product in them that they will last 2 weeks or longer and that’s if I use them every single day. Ipsy is the only one that I know of that does a pretty good job of getting you full size products and send you products that actually fits you. The products that are sent to you are selected and sent to you depending on your preferences with what is called IpsyMatch. This means that the products that you will receive, you will most likely get use out of them. If you sign up, you may be put on a waitlist (I was on the waitlist for no longer than 5 weeks) but you will NOT be charged until you come off and your subscription actually starts.
There’s also perks to being an Ipsy subscriber. I have actually connected with a few other “Ipsters” because of the way Ipsy website is designed. That’s always fun and it’s fun to see what looks others have come up with. Another awesome perk is earning Ipsy points. You can earn points for giving feedback on the products you receive each month and you can also earn points with a personal referral link. Once you earn enough points, you can choose a full size extra time. The selection one what you can choose varies and they change them every once in a while.
