This is my September 2014 Ipsy bag. I am pretty late getting this posted because I had a damaged item and I was waiting on my replacement so I can use it before sharing my thoughts on it. Ipsy customer service is great – I had a very good experience with them. More on that later in the post. Anyway, this month’s theme was “Street Style”. The bag is really cute, it’s like a silvery gray and had little decorative buttons across the top. I’ll definitely get some use out of this one either alone as a clutch or just to carry it in my purse.
What’s in the bag?
- Caviar CC Cream 10-in-1 Complete Correction Leave In Hair Perfection (deluxe) $12.00
- Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet Brush (full) $6.99
- Hikari Lipstick (full) $13.00
- Pacifica Natural Water Proof Eye Pencil (deluxe or mini) $5.50
- Nourish Organic Moisturizing Cream Face Cleanser (deluxe) $2.00
Total Approximate Value – $39.49
As usual, I did my math the best I could with the deluxe sample sizes. The values of the deluxe sizes are only approximate values.
Hikari Lipstick – The color that I received is Cabernet. When I first opened it up, I thought it was red. It does look red but it does have a dark pinkish color to it. Which is good because I have always been afraid of red lipstick. The lipstick is pigmented well. The color isn’t exactly my thing but I can see myself using it every once in a while. I love the way it makes my lips feel. It’s moisturized well and doesn’t dry my lips out. It does stay fairly well, I didn’t have to re-apply often. The lipstick itself doesn’t dry out either. It just glides on. Really good lipstick, just not my favorite color. Full Size 3.8g $13.00.
Pacifica Natural Water Proof Eye Pencil – I have used other Pacifica products such as nail polish and other eye pencils and love them. I have used some of their shadows but didn’t like them much because they didn’t seem very pigmented. Because I have used Pacifica eye pencils before, I was happy to get one in my bag. The color I received is called Fringe and it’s a dark brown color. This is a color that I don’t already have and I have been looking for a good dark brown color so it worked out for me. The product that I received is basically half the size of a full size pencil. The product glides on well but like the other Pacifica eye pencils I have, I have to use it first before I apply any shadow. It still goes on okay over shadow but for me, it’s better to use it first. I do tend to have to go over a couple times to get the desired color but that was something I kind of expected. I like these pencils because of how long lasting they and they wear well throughout the day. Full Size $11.00
Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet Brush – I love this brush! This is the item that was damaged in my bag. I also want to say, this is the first time (I have been a subscriber almost a year) that this has ever happened. I had a wonderful experience with IpsyCare and they sent me a replacement very quickly. Both ends of the brushes are so soft! They are pretty full to and really grab ahold of shadow. It doesn’t matter if it’s a matte shadow, shimmery shadow, baked shadow, it holds it all really well. I haven’t had any experience with the brush shedding either. Very happy with it and I love the duel ended brush. The only thing I am iffy on is that I think the crease end is a little too big but I can still achieve the look I am going for while using it. Other than that, this brush is fabulous. Full Size $6.99.
Nourish Organic Moisturizing Face Cleanser – This cleanser is for all skin types. I have used Nourish Organic Face Lotion and love it. I was actually introduced to Nourish Organic products through Ipsy and love them. I was excited to give this cleanser and a try. It doesn’t have much of a scent at all if there really is any. I thought I might at least smell a hint of cucumber that’s in it but I don’t. Which is fine either way. This cleanser doesn’t dry my skin out which is a big deal for me. It actually moisturizes my skin. That makes me happy because most cleansers do fry out my skin. It is kind of creamy but still on the watery side. It does have a good enough texture that it’s easy to apply to your face. Hydrates, soothes, replenishes skin, and rich in anti-oxidants so it makes me happy. Cleans really well too and helps control pimples, blackheads, and makes my skin feel and look smoother and healthier. Full Size 6 fl oz $13.99
Caviar CC Cream 10-in-1 Complete Correction Leave In Hair Protection – Ugh. A hair care product in my Ipsy bag. Don’t get me wrong, I like trying new hair care products as much as the next person but I really don’t like getting them in my Ipsy bag. I was reading the back of the tube that I got and it lists the 10 areas that it protects hair from or does for hair. Moisture, shine, smoothness, softness, UV protection, manageability, strength, anti-breakage, heat protection, and light hold. Being that all ten of those is what my hair needs, it got my interest. You can use it on towel dry hair or complete dry hair. I decided to use it on my dry hair because it includes heat protection and I was about to take my flat iron to my hair. My hair is really curly and if left unchecked for about 5 minutes, it’s really frizzy and feels dry – not at all soft unless I straighten it. This product gives my hair the moisture, shininess, and smoothness it desperately needs on a daily basis so I was pretty happy with it. It has a good smell to it too. So this time, the hair care product worked out just fine. I’ll have to look into buying the full size soon. Full Size 2.5 oz $25.00.
IpsyCare/Customer Service
This is the first time I have ever had to deal with Ipsy customer service so I figured I would add my experience to my post. When I saw that I had a damaged item, I contacted IpsyCare and told them that I had a damaged item and which item is was. I got an automatic generic reply that I will be contected via email within 24-48 hours or something like that. No big deal, it’s normally how customer service just about anywhere works. I was checking my email and about an hour later, I already got a response! The service rep apologized and was very friendly and courteous. She immediately told me that another would be shipped out to replace it. I didn’t have to return the damaged one so I didn’t have any shipping or hassle. I replied back thanking her and she replied yet again saying no problem, etc. and made sure to ask if I needed help with anything else. The very next day I got another reply letting me know my item was shipped with the tracking number. IpsyCare is awesome! I had a very good experience and she was the nicest lady!
Is Ipsy worth it? – Absolutely!
I always say this and once again, totally worth my $10. I have been an Ipsy subscriber for just over a year now and love it. I have been happy with each bag and they have all been valued at over $10 so in my opinion, it’s worth the money. I have only received two bags so far that was just a bit “so-so†but you will get that every once in a while with any subscription such like this. I was pretty happy with the products in this month’s bag although I probably could have gone without the hair care product – actually I take that back. The hair corrector CC cream was pretty awesome so I am actually happy I got it. But I can always count on some great products, some of them being full size and others being very generous deluxe samples. All the deluxe samples I have ever received has enough product in them that they will last 2 weeks or longer and that’s if I use them every single day. Ipsy is the only one that I know of that does a pretty good job of getting you full size products and send you products that actually fits you. The products that are sent to you are selected and sent to you depending on your preferences with what is called IpsyMatch. This means that the products that you will receive, you will most likely get use out of them. If you sign up, you may be put on a waitlist (I was on the waitlist for no longer than 5 weeks) but you will NOT be charged until you come off and your subscription actually starts.
There’s also perks to being an Ipsy subscriber. I have actually connected with a few other “Ipsters†because of the way Ipsy website is designed. That’s always fun and it’s fun to see what looks others have come up with. Another awesome perk is earning Ipsy points. You can earn points for giving feedback on the products you receive each month and you can also earn points with a personal referral link. Once you earn enough points, you can choose a full size extra time. The selection one what you can choose varies and they change them every once in a while.
