Sometimes you just need a break. I was never intending to take a break really. It just kind of happened. And I would never intend to be away as long as I was. Until today, I think my last post was back in September and that is totally unreal for me. When I first went MIA, it wasn’t an intentional break at all. We just got super busy and didn’t even have enough time for normal life. At that time, our boys were finishing up fall soccer. One of them is in U10 and the other is in U6. We were at the soccer fields every day of the week because one of them either had practice or a game. It got really crazy when they both had games at the same time and had to shuffle between two fields. All that gets to start again in the spring – yay! Not. Seriously though, they love soccer and I am happy to let them play and watch their games. But I am not looking forward to all the running. I have a plan this time with the good ole’ blog so I won’t have to go completely AWOL again.
Anyway, also around the time the boys’ soccer got us busy, our daughter also had a lot of band things going on at the same time too so that was even more fun. Those days when we have to drop on kid off at the high school or watch a concert and at the same time have two other kids playing sports on different fields is enough to pull out your hair.
Oh, and that doesn’t even include homework, dinner, and showers. We live in a rural district and our youngest two don’t get home until about 4:30pm. At which time we have to have dinner on the table right when they get home during those busy months so we can eat, get ready for soccer or band or whatever these kids have going on and run out the door. By the time we get home, they have very little time for homework and get their showers before bed. After a few weeks when everything started settling down, I started working on some things to post such as my freebies/samples posts and videos. By the time I got those done, I just didn’t feel like I ever had enough time to actually post them. I probably will never get to those ones since they were from so long ago.
I also got so behind on other things like my email. Oh, there was a time when I didn’t even want to look at my inbox – so I didn’t. I was so far behind it just really overwhelmed me. Other things would come up like our youngest son’s birthday and then before we knew it, Christmas was around the corner. It was the beginning of December when I tried to get back into the swing of things and even announced on our facebook page that I was going to write a post of Elf on the Shelf ideas. But alas, I never got to it. Something else I probably won’t write up any time soon – it just seems too silly to do it now. The kids were home for two weeks for Christmas break and I thought my time might best be served by spending time with them before they went back to school.
I took January to get caught up on everything – such as the dreaded email. Planned out some things I wanted to post and get done and started making lists so I am a bit more organized since I have been out of it for a while. Now that I am not feeling so overwhelmed, I am back. Yep, I am back this time – for real. I may be back but I am going to ease back into it so I don’t keep overwhelming myself to extend my way too long break and I don’t want to do that because I love my blog and I love blogging.
Sometimes you just need that break even if you don’t realize it! I started my blogging 6 or 7 years ago because it was fun and I really enjoyed it. I still do, don’t get me wrong. But there are times where it seems like a lot of work (which a lot of times it is) but sometimes it just seems a bit much and it’s so easy to get yourself buried. I want to continue to love my blog and doing what I do and taking a step away for a while was something that was needed. Now I am getting my groove back. Do you blog? If so, do you ever take a break?
