The Lego Ninjago Movie Review & DVD/Blu-ray Giveaway #Sponsored

*I received product(s) mentioned in this post for free in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% my own.*

Recently I received the opportunity to review The Lego Ninjago Movie which happens to be a release from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The movie was released on DVD, Blu-ray and other formats on December 19th, 2017. In exchange for my honest review, I was sent a Blu-ray/DVD combo of the movie and a couple Lego Ninjago Figurine Sets my boys really enjoy.

About the movie

“In the battle for Ninjago City, Lloyd (Dave Franco), high school student by day and Green Ninja by night, gets thrown into the ultimate adventure with his secret ninja warrior friends! Led by the wise and wisecracking Master Wu (Jackie Chan), they must defeat evil warlord Garmadon (Justin Theroux), The Worst Guy Ever, who also happens to be Lloyd’s dad. On their courageous journey, they learn to band together to unleash their inner power in an epic showdown to save the city.”

The movie begins in a live action sequence where a little boy walks into a Chinatown curio store. The shopkeeper (Jackie Chan) looks at the little boy’s beat up Lego figure and transforms the figure into Lloyd, the Green Ninja. He then shows the boy a carved wooden figure of a wizened martial arts master and begins the story of Ninjago. At this point the movie shifts into the Lego world.

Ninjago City is much like the Lego world in The Lego Movie. Ninjago is a city on an island where Chinese and Japanese culture are combined. The people of Ninjago City are often faced with threats from Lord Garmadon who lives in a volcano on the island. Since Garmadon is Lloyd’s estranged father, not many people have anything to do with him except for his five friends who form a superhero group together.

If you don’t know much about Ninjago, I will say it is somewhat reminiscent of Power Rangers. This group of high school friends are different colored ninjas that fight with mech suits such as a green dragon. Their leader is Master Wu who is voiced by Jackie Chan. We love Jackie Chan. The fight scenes in this movie are fun to watch. Anyway, after the latest battle with Garmadon fails, Lloyd decides he and his Ninjago gang should track down the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon to finally take down his dad for good.

Like the Kragle in The Lego Movie, the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon is a common household item. But by going on this adventure to find it, Lloyd may have caused more harm to Ninjago than his father ever did….

My whole family loved this movie. The kids loved it. There’s something in it for everyone. There are some funny moments in the visuals and there are also some funny moments in the dialog. In my opinion I think this movie is enjoyable by kids and parents both. I will say that the weapon they are looking for is a laser pointer key chain. And the reason I want to mention it is because those who are Star Wars fans might appreciate some of the Star Wars references that are made in this movie. I thought it was pretty awesome although some of it might have been kind of corny. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good family movie that we all enjoyed.

In this post I wanted to make a quick mention of the Lego Ninjago Figurine Sets my boys received. They love these little sets. The ones they received are for ages 6-12 and has 60 pieces. They both have the green dragon and they really enjoyed building them. My 8 year old needed a little help but my 11 year old didn’t need any at all. There are a lot of small pieces with these. The dragon is pretty cool because every part of its body can be moved.

Make sure you pick up your copy of The Lego Ninjago Movie for your family. I’ll mention its fun for the whole family again – and a lot of fun to watch! The Lego Ninjago Sets are a lot of fun too and you can find those at most stores that sell Legos.
