I just LOVE my Nixplay Digital Smart Frame! I love digital frames but I am honestly telling you, this is the best one that I ever had. First of all, my photos are displayed beautifully on it. I have had other frames that don’t display my photos as well as the Nixplay Smart Photo Frame does. Secondly, every digital frame I have had, always required and SD card and it was so annoying to transfer photos on one of them. And after so long, I would need to replace them because those cards stopped working.
With the Nixplay Digital Smart Frame, I don’t have to worry about that. You can upload your photos from your photos stored on your smart phone and in addition, you can add them right from your social media accounts such as facebook and instagram. And you know what’s even more awesome? You can send photos to your frame no matter where you are at! Which also means you can send photos directly to someone else’s frame. All you have to do is send a share link or vice-versa.
Makes a great gift!

Unboxing My Nixplay Frame
First, I just want to say how well everything is packed inside the box. It’s packed really well so the damage risk is very minimal of the frame during shipping. The frame comes with a protective adhesive plastic over the screen so you will want to remove it. Included is a power cord, remote control, and mounting hardware if you choose to mount it. And of course there is a manual and set up guide.
The stand on the back of it allows you to bend and shape it so that you can either stand the frame vertically or horizontally. If you want to mount it, just slide open the mounting panel. It’s easy to mount on the wall although I prefer to have mine sitting on the table top. If you have your frame sitting on the table, the power cord is inserted into the flexible stand.
It sits well whether it’s sitting vertically or horizontally. I prefer mine to sit vertically because most of the time, I take photos portrait (vertically) anyway. There aren’t many that I take that are landscape (horizontally). Even if you have your frame sitting vertically and you do happen to have a few horizontal ones like I do, the frame will automatically adjust them.
And there are also some settings you can change on how they are displayed too if you need too. Above is how some of my horizontal photos look like while being displayed on the frame while sitting vertically.
The remote control comes with batteries so it’s ready for use right out of the box. You can use the remote or you can use the Nixplay app instead of the remote. I like using the app for controls. Besides, adjusting settings when I need to for my Nixplay Digital Smart Frame is easier by way of the app.
If you use the remote in the app, it looks pretty similar to the actual remote. While adjusting settings, I think going through them in the app is easier than going through them on the frame screen. Besides, you will need to download the Nixplay app anyway before using your frame.
As I mentioned, I don’t use the actual remote that often however, it is nice to have an actual remote if you are like me and left your phone somewhere else in your house and can’t seem to find it at the moment. One of the things I love about this is that there is a magnetic part of the frame on the back. And the remote can be magnetized to the back of the frame so you always know where it is at. Keep in mind though, this will not work if you have your frame mounted.
Setting Up Your Frame
Before you set up your frame, you will need to download the Nixplay app on your smart phone or tablet. If you already have a Nixplay account, all you have to do is sign in. If this is your first Nixplay Digital Smart Frame, you probably need to create one. It’s easy, there isn’t much to it. Your name, email, nickname and that’s about it. I downloaded the app and set up my account and set up the frame itself simultaneously.
After turning the frame on, it went through some updates and afterward it played a short video of how it works. You can also skip through this. The frame will ask to sign into your home WiFi. Once that is done, it will display the frame’s personal numbers. On the app, you will pair the frame. Mine did it automatically. I didn’t need to enter the numbers.
Using the App
After everything is set up, you can start uploading photos into your account on the Nixplay app. Before you do, you can name your frame and set the location for your frame. At first I wasn’t sure what the location meant. I thought “I am pretty sure I know where I live, why do I need to put my location.” I had a “duh” moment. It’s for the location of the room your frame is in. That way if you have more than one frame paired to your app, you can put the location of each frame so you know which photos you want to send to each frame.
It has plenty of storage too so you can upload tons of photos. My Nixplay Digital Smart Frame has 5 GB of space. Some frames have more space depending on which one you purchase.
Each time you upload photos, you are asked if you want them added to an existing playlist or if you want to create a new playlist. They automatically save all photos to the default album. I didn’t realize it at first but I could have created multiple albums each time I uploaded more because I noticed once they are in an album, I can’t move them to another album. But it’s really not a big deal though since the frame displays photos from the playlists created and not the albums themselves.
The first photos I uploaded were all of my daughter’s senior pictures. They were saved into the “My Uploads” album but I was asked to make a Playlist. I named it Class of 2020. The next set of photos I uploaded was our trip to Lake Erie. They were also saved to the “My Uploads” album but I was asked to add them to an existing Playlist or create a new one. So I created a Lake Erie playlist.
Once each playlist is created, you send or assign it to your frame. I currently have 3 or 4 playlists. At first I thought I might have needed to make one playlist to show all photos I had uploaded. But that’s not the case. You can choose to shuffle through all playlists or you can choose just one playlist from your list.
I love the transition settings on my Nixplay Digital Smart Frame. You can choose a specific one but I like to use the Random option. That way there is a different transition between each photo. I also really like that you can set the frame up to wake up at a certain time and in addition, sleep at a certain time.
I really like the motion censor too. The frame will automatically come on when it senses motion. You can toggle this on and off. If you have the motion senor on, you can set how long the frame will stay on displaying your photos. The reason I love this is because If no one is in the room, there is no reason for the frame to stay on. This way, I don’t have to remember to turn it off.
I originally had my Nixplay Digital Smart Frame in my living room but I recently put it in my dining room. I created a playlist for all the places we have visited over the last couple years. It’s become a great conversation piece. As the photos cycle through, we talk about these places and reminisce about our experiences when we aren’t talking about how each of our day has gone.
I am definitely going to have to get my dad a Nixplay Digital Photo Frame for Father’s Day. He doesn’t get to visit very often and I think this would be perfect for him. He can send me a friend’s invite link so I can send him our photos to display. And I can do that from anywhere. Pretty cool isn’t it?!
Guys, I can’t begin to tell you how much I love my Nixplay Digital Smart Frame! The set up is super easy. I love being able to upload photos to the app and send them directly to my frame. I don’t have to be annoyed with SD cards anymore. Or replacing them either. It’s also like an extra storage for my photos. They give you ample storage for free (like I mentioned earlier, I have 5 GB of storage) but they also give you the option to purchase more space and features.
The quality of my photos don’t seem to be minimized after uploading or even downloading them again from my Nixplay account if I happen to delete photos from my phone and want to download them to my device again. I always save my photos to my PC and backup hard drive anyway but it’s nice to have that option.
I can’t say enough great things about Nixplay and their frames. My photos are displayed very beautifully!
